Cuban journalist and activist José Luis Tan was arbitrarily detained by State Security in the province of Camagüey on Friday and was threatened with jail if he makes any move against the regime on July 11th (11J).

Through the social network Facebook, Tan reported that the arrest occurred while connecting to the internet in Agramonte Park, when an officer identified as "Laura" approached, took away his mobile phone, and intimidated him with arrest if he screamed.

Seconds later, the activist was transported in a police car to the Third Unit of the National Revolutionary Police, and once there, "Laura" and another agent known as "Marcelo" gave him several warnings.

During the interrogation, they told him that he could not be in public places or make any posts on July 11, accusing him of being a "negative leader" in the province.

Despite receiving a warning letter, the activist refused to sign it and was threatened with being prosecuted for disobedience and contempt if he did not comply with the orders.

Despite yet another unpleasant situation against him, Tan did not back down and reaffirmed his commitment to independent journalism and his determination not to turn his back on injustices.

In fact, the communicator, who also posted a video to explain the situation, was imprisoned at the end of April and beginning of May without reasons, which mobilized Cubans who fight for freedom, and the regime had no choice but to release him.

The young man is part of a group of activists for human rights, relatives of political prisoners, and journalists in Camagüey, who proposed six steps that they consider essential to save the Cuban people from the current economic crisis and free them from tyranny.

Among the measures are respect and support for peaceful demonstrations, the elimination of all barriers that hinder the economy, the release of political prisoners, as well as the cessation of any type of harassment.

The group also demanded the proper use of state resources wasted on repression and political propaganda, the removal of Communist Party control over the Constitution, and the holding of truly democratic elections within a period of no more than six months.
