Cuban athletics secures another eight tickets for Paris 2024

A total of 18 athletes achieved qualification: 10 met the required standard set by the sports entity, and the rest gained access thanks to their placements in the universal rankings, including two women in the 4x400 meter relay.

After the adjustments were completed and the registration lists were closed by World Athletics, Cuban athletics secured another eight spots and increased the number of competitors to 18 in the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Finally, according to the Deporcuba Facebook page, 10 athletes met the mark required by the sports entity and the rest managed to qualify thanks to their placements in the universal rankings, including two women in the 4x400 meters relay.

It is worth noting that the sprinter Shainer Reginfo, current national record holder in the men's 100 meters, will not be participating due to an injury, although the island will have Reynaldo Espinosa in the race.

Of course, the main figure will be the world medalist Leyanis Pérez (triple jump), although her counterparts Liadagmis Povea and Lázaro Martínez, both with positive results in recent seasons, cannot be overlooked either.

By a minimum margin:

Rose Mary Almanza (women's 800 meters)

Roxana Gómez (women's 400 meters)

Lázaro Martínez (men's triple jump)

Shainer Reginfo (100 meters men's sprint) - Will not compete due to injury.

Women's 800 meters daily.

Yunisleidy García (women's 100 meters, 48th place out of 56 participants)

Silinda Morales (discus throw, 16th place out of 32 participants)

Melany Matheus (discus throw, placed 30th out of 32 participants)

Women's 4 x 400 meters relay (16th place out of 16)

Alejandro Parada (long jump, 24th place out of 32 participants)

Andy Hechavarria (triple jump, 27th place out of 32 participants)

Mario Alberto Díaz (discus throw, placed 31st out of 32 participants)

With the eight qualifiers by ranking, athletics became the Cuban sport with the highest number of athletes in Paris 2024, and the delegation increased to 61 competitors in 16 disciplines.

With the multi-awarded wrestler Mijaín López as the standard-bearer, Cuba aspires to conquer five gold medals in the Olympic Games and finish among the top 25 nations in the final standings.
