Woman sexually assaulted by a Cuban posing as an Uber driver, according to the police

The young woman was able to share her location in real time with someone she knew and warned the Cuban that she would call the police if she did not reach her destination.

A 38-year-old Cuban named Alberto Angulo López appeared in court facing charges of kidnapping and assault after picking up a young woman as an alleged Uber driver, then groping her and failing to take her home.

The incident dates back to February 28 of last year when two women, after exiting a nightclub in Miami Beach at 4:30 in the morning, discovered that their car had been towed.

In an interview with Telemundo 51, the victim recounted that she had an argument with her friend and decided to get into the car, believing it was an Uber driver.

The testimony from the aforementioned media outlet did not clarify whether the young woman made the call from the car through the app or if she relied on the driver to identify himself as such.

The young woman claims that the driver entered the address for her house but then began driving in the opposite direction, actually getting farther away.

During the journey, the man allegedly began touching himself and asked her, "haven't you tried a Cuban member before?"

"I told myself: I have two options, either figure out how to get out of here or wait for him to assault me, hoping he would then take pity on me and leave me at my house," recounts the young woman of Hispanic background.

The victim was able to share her location in real time with someone she knew and warned Alberto Angulo that this person would call the police if she did not reach her destination.

Finally, Angulo López dropped her off in Homestead, a place different from what they had agreed upon, demanding money from her before leaving.

"I don't know if he thought that I would want to meet with him again and he gave me his number for the Zelle transfer because I sent him everything through Zelle... He gave me his number, but before that, he also asked me to follow him on social media," the woman added.

Authorities compiled the evidence that led to the arrest of Alberto Angulo López and his appearance in court. The most serious charge against him is kidnapping, a first-degree offense that could even result in life imprisonment.

Alberto Angulo López remains in custody without the possibility of bail while the judicial process unfolds.
