New members of the State Council in Cuba are "elected" following the "resignation" of four members.

This Wednesday, new members of the State Council were elected by the deputies of the National Assembly of Cuba after the previous "resignation" of four members, as reported by the official press.

Nothing has been specified about the reason for the "resignation" of the four members, including former secretary of the Union of Young Communists (UJC), Aylín Álvarez, although in almost all cases the departure and entry are justified by.

Among them are Julio Emilio Morejón Pérez, Angélica María Chorens Fernández, Rafael Santisteban Pozo, and Aylín Álvarez García, who handed over their positions to other members elected this morning," as reported by Granma newspaper.

The new members of the State Council are Meyvis Estevez Echavarría, the first secretary of the Union of Communist Youth of Cuba; Ricardo Rodríguez González, president of the FEU; Félix Duarte Ortega, President of the National Association of Small Farmers (ANAP); and Reinier Guillen Otero, general director of Antillana de Acero.

"The parliamentarians voted almost unanimously for the four candidates, chosen for their trajectory and qualifications," reported the head of the National Electoral Council, Alina Balseiro, in statements quoted by Prensa Latina.

Meyvis Estévez Echevarría, 32 years old and a Law graduate, had been serving as the second secretary of the UJC since January 31, 2023, and in April of this year she replaced Aylín Álvarez in the position.

Félix Duarte Ortega, 49 years old and an Agricultural Production Mechanization engineer, recently took office as president of the National Association of Small Farmers. In the past, Duarte Ortega was also the first secretary of the Provincial Committee in Ciego de Ávila.

Fifth-year medical student Ricardo Rodríguez González has been serving as the national president of the Federation of University Students (FEU) since the beginning of this year.

The fourth winner is Reinier Guillén Otero, 40 years old, who serves as the general director of the José Martí Steel Company, popularly known as Antillana de Acero.

The State Council is the body of the National Assembly of People's Power that represents it between sessions, executes its agreements, and fulfills other functions attributed to it by the Constitution. It is accountable to the Parliament and reports on all its activities.

The election and swearing-in of the new members of that structure marked the end of the first part of the initial day of the Third Ordinary Session of the Parliament, in its X Legislature, which began this Wednesday and concludes next Saturday.
