The Cuban Mario de León Díaz, with immigration document I-220B who had been detained by ICE and faced the threat of deportation to Cuba, was released this Saturday, reported Telemundo 51.
"He called me and told me they were going to release him, that they were going to release him," said Marien Acosta, wife of the 26-year-old migrant, in statements to the news channel.
She explained that the family has been living through terrible anguish in recent days and feels that this release has transformed their lives: "My life has changed automatically," said the woman, who is four months pregnant.
The family's lawyer, Eduardo Soto, filed a lawsuit requesting an emergency Parole, arguing the delicate situation of his pregnant wife.
"You no longer have to attend the immigration appointment, we got that off our backs," added the young woman.
The woman had pleaded three days ago for her husband to be released and for the separation of her family to be prevented.
León Díaz was facing a deportation order for having an I-220B document and not having passed the credible fear interview at the United States border.
During what seemed to be a routine appointment with ICE last week, he was detained for having a supervision and deportation order (I-220B).
This Friday, the U.S. deported a group of 54 irregular migrants to Cuba on a flight that landed at José Martí International Airport on July 18.
According to the Ministry of the Interior (MININT), the group was made up of 40 men and 14 women. Most of these individuals had left Cuba legally, but then they joined irregular routes to reach the U.S. border.
