President Joe Biden returned to Washington this Tuesday after recovering from his coronavirus infection and stated on social media that his return to the White House was a "fantastic" feeling, putting an end to growing rumors about a deterioration in his health.
"It's fantastic to be back at the White House," the Democrat wrote on his social media, sharing an image of his entrance to the government building where he is seen stepping out of the presidential limousine and walking with a firm stride toward his office.
This is his first public appearance after he decided last Sunday to withdraw from the presidential race after being isolated at his beach house in Delaware due to Covid-19.
In another post on X, Biden indicated that the presidency of the United States remained "the greatest honor" of his life and that he had held a meeting with his team in the Oval Office.
This Wednesday, the president will deliver a speech to the nation from the White House to explain the reasons for his withdrawal from reelection. A week earlier, Biden was isolated at his home in Delaware after testing positive for a Covid-19 test.
"During the course of his infection, he never showed fever, and his vital signs remained normal, including pulse oximetry. His lungs remained clear," said his primary care physician, Kevin O'Connor, who certified that the president no longer has symptoms.
Last Sunday, Biden announced in a letter addressed to the American people that he was withdrawing from the presidential race, following criticism from his own party over his weak performance in the first electoral debate against Donald Trump (2017-2021) that took place on June 27.
He said he did it for the good of the country and the Democratic Party, and announced that this week he would address the nation to explain what happened.
Biden chose his vice president, Kamala Harris, as his successor, who already secured enough delegates on Monday to ensure her nomination at the upcoming Democratic National Convention, which will begin on August 19 in Chicago.
