An elderly disabled Cuban woman recovered her cell phone, which had been stolen from her own home in Centro Habana, following an investigation conducted by the police, according to an official report.
The robbery occurred on Lagunas Street between Galiano and San Nicolás, "using the old trick of the glass of water," according to a post on the Facebook profile of a user identified as Javier Gutiérrez, who is dedicated to praising the actions of the Cuban police against crime, like several other social media pages aligned with the regime.
According to the information, an individual approached the woman's house, asked for water, and when she went to get it, the thief took the opportunity and stole her mobile phone.
The victim -whose name was not revealed- suffers from a physical disability and is seen in a wheelchair in a photo published in the post.
After the robbery, he filed a report at the police unit on Zanja and Lealtad, in the municipality of Havana.
After a "long investigation" -according to the profile-, the authorities recovered the cell phone that was in the possession of a person who had bought it.
However, the police have not yet found the individual who stole the device, so the investigation continues.
In the midst of a complex social context, marked by the acute economic crisis affecting Cuba, assaults, thefts, and violent crimes are daily news in the country and call into question the effectiveness of law enforcement in dealing with them.
The rise in crime, violence, and insecurity on the streets of Cuba keeps the population on edge, which questions the work of the police and often feels compelled to take matters into their own hands to capture thieves and criminals.
Recently, the Cuban leader Miguel Díaz-Canel acknowledged the increase in violence, crime, and drug-related offenses in the country.
