A cart pusher from Cienfuegos is sentenced to five years in prison for assaulting inspectors.

The man gave two cookies to an inspector and hit another one with a scale weight, causing non-serious injuries that required medical assistance.

The municipal court of Cienfuegos sentenced a cart pusher to five years in prison for assaulting two inspectors who attempted to issue him a fine.

The sanctioned individual, named Leonardo Díaz Carrasco, was charged with two counts of assault for the events that occurred on February 2 in the La Juanita popular council.

According to the newspaper 5 de septiembre, Díaz Carrasco is a self-employed worker who sells agricultural products. That day, two inspectors from the People's Power arrived, who verified that he was violating the rates established by the government and summoned him to the nearest agricultural market to notify him that he was going to be fined.

"At the moment of signing the stub for the mentioned fine, Díaz Carrasco struck the inspector twice in the face, and in this situation, another inspector who was present intervened, whom he also attacked using one of the weights from the scale, causing injuries to the latter. Although these injuries did not endanger his life, he required medical assistance for his recovery," the note details.

In the trial held on Tuesday, July 23, the judges found him guilty and imposed, in addition to the prison sentence, the accessory penalties of deprivation of public rights and a prohibition on leaving the country for the same duration as the main sentence.
