At least four motorcycles that were parked in a private garage in the Micro 9 neighborhood of the José Martí District in Santiago de Cuba were burned after a fire broke out in one of them, which spread to the nearest ones.
This was reported on social media by independent journalist Yosmany Mayeta Labrada, indicating that the garage was primarily used for parking electric motorcycles.
"Neighbors in the area quickly wrote and reported what had happened," reported Mayeta Labrada. A young neighbor from the area уточнила that the incident left "four scooters damaged because one exploded and the others burned."
The young woman stated that "thanks to a neighbor who is a nearby seller and had a fire extinguisher, she was able to mitigate the damage, which could have been worse." The events were confirmed by another neighbor from the area, who specified that more than "50 combustion motorcycles [in addition to] electric ones" were stored in that garage.
Photographs shared by the independent journalist confirmed that among the burned motorcycles there was at least one combustion engine. Two fire trucks were dispatched to the site, as seen in one of the images.
Judging by the images, many other motorcycle owners managed to remove their vehicles from the location.
Recently, a motorcycle caught fire in the Havana municipality of Guanabacoa, specifically on the street of the Cruz Verde Polyclinic.
The incident occurred in the morning and surprised the neighbors who never imagined that the fire would consume the motorcycle in just a few minutes, leaving it reduced to a metal structure. The firefighters extinguished the blaze and no one was injured, but the motorcycle was completely burned.
At the beginning of July, the explosion of an electric motorbike caused a fire and the collapse of part of a house in the city of Camagüey, with no casualties reported.
The house located at number 585 Pobres Street, between San Esteban and Jaime, in the historic center of the city, caught fire after a motorcycle whose battery was being charged exploded, and was parked next to a gasoline motorcycle, reported Cuban journalist Henry Constantín, director of the independent media La Hora de Cuba.
At the end of June, a fire from an electric motorcycle engulfed a garage in flames within seconds and left a charred Lada car in Santa Clara, province of Las Villas.
Reports on social media indicated that the owner of the motorcycle plugged it in to charge once he arrived at the garage, which also contained three gas canisters. The combination of so many flammable elements quickly ignited a large fire.
