Two glories of women's volleyball reunited in Paris: the Cuban Mireya Luis and the Russian Elizaveta Tishchencko.

Both elite athletes in their discipline, now retired, attended the Olympic event where they enjoy watching the best in world sports shine, just as they did decades ago.

In the Facebook group "PERU VOLEY," the user Tito Mio shared a photo of the two former players and old rivals posing happily and smiling in front of the Eiffel Tower.

Both players faced each other in two Olympics while they were active: Atlanta 96 and Sydney 2000.

Mireya Luis, a 56-year-old from Camagüey, is recognized as one of the best volleyball players of all time. She was a member of the national team for 18 consecutive years and attended three Olympics: Barcelona 92, Atlanta 96, and Sydney 2000, winning gold medals in all three.

On her part, Yelizaveta Tishchenko, 49 years old, debuted with the Soviet national team in 1991. She attended Atlanta 96 (where Russia finished in fourth place), Sydney 2000 (where they won silver after being defeated by the Cubans), and Athens 2004, where she also won a silver medal and Cuba was pushed to third place.

Several fans wished both of them success in the post.

"Unmatched. The best attacker and the best slide," said a Peruvian.

"Great Mireya. She didn't let the Russians win during their years of glory," recalled an elderly Cuban woman.

"Mireya Luis, the best and from Camagüey," expressed with pride a fellow townswoman.
