One day after the elections in Venezuela, which declared Nicolás Maduro the winner, opposition leader María Corina Machado spoke at a press conference, stating that they have evidence proving that Edmundo González was the true victorious candidate.
"We already have a way to prove the truth of what happened at the polls. The difference was overwhelming, we won in all the states," said Machado at a press conference alongside his candidate, Edmundo González.
The count conducted by the opposition resulted in a vote of 2,759,256 in favor of Nicolás Maduro against 6,275,182 ballots in support of candidate Edmundo González Urrutia.
"The regime slept very worried, and we did not sleep because we were very busy collecting evidence. (...) I want to tell you that we have 73.3% of the records at this moment, and with this result, our elected president is Edmundo González Urrutia," Machado stated from the Comando Con Venezuela, the political headquarters of the opposition coalition.
The opposition leader pointed out that, with this result, Nicolás Maduro would have no way to catch up to the opposition leader. "Even if the CNE (National Electoral Council) gives him 100% of the remaining votes," she noted.
Political leaders assured that all the recovered records are available on a website, and that anyone with a Venezuelan document can access the site to verify the authenticity of what has been stated. The portal will be enabled on the night of this Monday.
Evaluating the spontaneous demonstrations that have arisen in rejection of the apparent fraud, María Corina Machado called for a peaceful protest on Tuesday, July 30 at 11:00 in the morning (Venezuela time).
For his part, Edmundo González pointed out: “I speak to you with the calmness of truth. We have in our hands the records that demonstrate our mathematical and irreversible victory. Our victory is historic; we won in places where democratic forces had never won in these 25 years.”
"Our triumph is historic; we won where democratic forces had never won in this country in the last 25 years. We are going to fight for our freedom. I understand the indignation, but the response is one of calm and firmness," said González Urrutia.
