Randy Malcom on Maduro's re-election: “They snatched away from the people of Venezuela the taste of freedom.”

The musician wished for Cubans and Venezuelans that “hopefully one day we both will be free and enjoy what we once were, a great democratic and free nation.”

Randy Malcom, a member of the popular Cuban music group Gente de Zona, dedicated a brief reflection to Nicolás Maduro's proclamation as president of Venezuela for a new term in charge of the country.

"I was waiting until the end of the presidential elections in Venezuela to write this," said the musician on the social network Instagram.

"Unfortunately, the people of Venezuela have been deprived of the taste of freedom, and I hope it won’t be for another 65 years like those that the dictatorship of Cuba is about to celebrate," he continued.

The artist went on to comment that he felt sad to see "how the dreams of freedom of millions are fading away, but understand that those bastards will never relinquish power willingly, nor with decency."

However, he had a wish for Cubans and Venezuelans. "Hopefully, one day we will be free, both peoples, and enjoy what we once were, a great democratic and free nation."

This Monday, July 29, 2024, the Venezuelan electoral authority announced Maduro's reelection, a result that immediately triggered a wave of protests and rejection from the opposition and a significant part of the population.

The demonstrations by the population against the electoral outcome have reached such a point that in Coro, Falcón state, several protesters gathered in Plaza Hugo Chávez, an emblematic site for Chavismo, and toppled a statue about three meters tall, which had served as a point of reference for political events in the region, reported La Tercera.

Meanwhile, the proclaimed president ordered the immediate withdrawal from the country of the diplomatic representatives of Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, Panama, Peru, the Dominican Republic, and Uruguay, "in response to the interfering actions and statements" from their governments.
