Warnings about threats against Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara in prison.

The art curator Claudia Genlui Hidalgo reported that, just when she was speaking with him over the phone, a guard threatened to hang up the call.

Cuban activists alerted this Thursday about the threats against the independent artist and political prisoner Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara in the Guanajay prison in the province of Artemisa.

In a video posted on the social network X by Norges Rodríguez, CEO and co-founder of the digital media YucaByte, art curator Claudia Genlui Hidalgo denounced that, just when she was speaking with him over the phone, a guard threatened to hang up the call.

Genlui expressed great concern because Alcántara has been on a hunger strike, stating that "the security of the prison and the State are intent on intimidating him and making him feel bad, a violence they have resumed in recent days."

"A psychological violence that is affecting Luis Manuel, and he has already had to endure a lot, which has even led him to be urinating blood," said the activist.

He also called to be vigilant about any situation that may arise with the artist at an important moment given the struggle of the Venezuelan people to demand the truth following the presidential elections.

On her part, Anamely Ramos also warned about the emergency situation and the ongoing threats: “They (the members of the regime) are very nervous about what is happening in Venezuela.”

"Striking is their only way to defend themselves. He even said he would go to the last consequences," she stated through tears, not forgetting Maykel Osorbo, another political prisoner unjustly imprisoned by the island's dictators.

A few hours ago, Otero Alcántara contacted Cuban activists and confirmed that he has been on a hunger strike for 10 days. The information was shared on social media by Yanelys Nuñez, who has been denouncing the situation of Otero Alcántara and other political prisoners in Cuba.

The young man has been without communication for long periods and shows a notable physical and mental decline, resulting from three years of unjust imprisonment, while he continues to appeal to peaceful protest as a way to demand his freedom.
