Eduardo Jesús Pastrana Pacheco, a 25-year-old Cuban with an extensive criminal record in Miami, was arrested again this Wednesday after leading police on a chase in a stolen car, which ended in an accident, and violently resisting arrest.
According to the police report, Pastrana led the Florida Highway Patrol on a chase on Wednesday night that began on the Turnpike and ended at SW 109th Avenue and 8th Street in Miami-Dade County, while driving a stolen pickup truck, which eventually overturned at a Tamiami intersection.
The incident began when a police officer, driving north on the Turnpike, saw a dark-colored pickup truck traveling at high speed that matched the description of a vehicle that had been reported stolen in Miami-Dade.
The agent began to follow the van, but Pastrana accelerated and sped away, even after the officer activated the emergency lights and sirens, according to a report from Local 10 News.
After exiting the Turnpike onto Southwest 8th Street, Pastrana attempted to head north on 109th Avenue, but he collided with another car and his vehicle overturned, ending up on its roof.
According to the authorities, the Cuban got out of the van to try to escape and fought against the police when they tried to apprehend him.
The scene was recorded by a witness and the video was shared by the @lifestyle_miami profile on Instagram.
"While attempting to detain the fleeing suspect, he resisted and physically fought against us as we took him to the ground," the arrest report states. "It took several police officers to handcuff the suspect. Miami-Dade detectives will take over the overall investigation due to the multiple charges against the suspect for other stolen vehicles."
It was confirmed that both the truck driven by Pastrana and the license plate were stolen.
The Cuban faces charges of grand theft of a vehicle, fleeing and evading police, and resisting an officer with violence.
He was sent to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where he remained detained this Thursday morning, with no bail set yet.
In 2021, Pastrana went to jail after shooting a passenger in a vehicle in the vicinity of Florida International University (FIU) up to five times in the legs.
He was then charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, and leaving the scene of an accident.
Since he was 16 years old, the young Cuban has accumulated a long criminal record in the city of Miami, including charges of grand theft, drug possession, and carrying firearms without a permit.
