Neighbors in Havana have expressed their concern about the high probability of flooding due to the heavy rains that have been hitting the city since Thursday.

Raúl Córdova, a resident of the Cuban capital, expressed on Facebook his distrust in the authorities' claims about the actions taken to prevent flooding.

The reality on the streets seems to contradict those estimates, he said, and posted photos of the corner of 5th and 12th Street, where water is accumulating after just a few drops of rain.

"Then they say they took measures by cleaning drains and sewers, what will happen when the heavy rains come like those from a few months ago?" commented Cordova.

The heavy rains that affected Havana a few months ago caused significant flooding, resulting in material damage and leaving several residents homeless.

Despite the authorities' efforts to improve the drainage infrastructure, citizens still doubt its effectiveness.

The neighbors urged the authorities to conduct a thorough review and take more effective measures to ensure that the sewers and drains are fully operational before the rains intensify.

Havana residents hope that these concerns will be addressed urgently to prevent a repeat of the devastation from previous floods, especially after the National Hurricane Center (NHC) announced this Saturday the formation of the fourth tropical depression of the season, located over Cuba.

Tropical Depression number four has rapidly developed and is expected to cause adverse weather conditions in the region, including the Isle of Youth.

Tropical storm conditions are forecasted with sustained winds of up to 35 mph (55 km/h) and stronger gusts.

The depression is expected to produce rainfall accumulations of 6 to 10 inches, with maximum totals of up to 15 inches in some areas. These rains could cause flash flooding and landslides, especially in mountainous and urban areas with drainage issues.
