Floods, intense rains, and a possible tropical depression threaten Cuba.

Since this Saturday, heavy rains and floods have been affecting the Cuban capital. The situation could continue into Sunday.

The Meteorological Institute issued an urgent alert due to the extreme weather conditions that are developing and will affect the entire country.

In a recent weather forecast report cited by ACN, Cuban meteorologists warn that intense rains are related to a very humid flow in the lower levels of the atmosphere, in combination with strong currents in the upper levels of the troposphere.

This Saturday, in just three hours, between 2:00 and 5:00 pm, 56 millimeters of rain were reported, causing sudden flooding in various parts of the capital.

Precipitation will persist in the western part of the country during the weekend and will extend to the rest of the archipelago, with the possibility of being intense in some locations.

Furthermore, a large low-pressure center has been located over the southwest Gulf of Mexico, generating a large area of disorganized rain and thunderstorms.

The environmental conditions are favorable for the gradual development of a possible tropical depression, which will move slowly west-northwest or northwest.

There is a possibility that the tropical depression may form before this system reaches the northeast coast of Mexico on Sunday night.

The Cuban authorities urge the population to take precautions against possible flash floods and landslides.
