Cuban athletes Noslen Díaz and Jorge Luis Alayo were eliminated this Sunday in the beach volleyball event of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, after losing 1-2 to the favored Swedes David Ahman and Jonatan Hellvig.

With the Eiffel Tower in the background, the Antillean duo, unbeaten in the group stage, could not maintain their playing pace against the leaders of the world ranking, and the match ended with scores of 11-21, 28-26, and 15-11.

In statements to the press published on the social network Facebook, Captain Alayo explained that they gave their all: "We leave with our heads held high. We made many unforced errors, and that hit us hard."

Despite the setback, the young duo from the island, who qualified for the event after great performances on the world circuit, showed character in their Olympic debut and makes their supporters dream of notable performances in the future.

"They never gave up, they had flashes of the quality that earned them the public's admiration, leaving a memorable image in their farewell," published the digital site JIT in its game report.

A review of social media easily shows that Díaz and Luis Alayo had captured the attention of the Cuban fans, who suffer every day from the defeats of their athletes in the global competition.

So far, the largest of the Antilles has only secured two medals, both in boxing: a silver from finalist Erislandy Álvarez (63.5 kilograms) and a bronze from eliminated Arlen López (80).

The delegation has clear options for a crown in Greco-Roman wrestling, with the presence of the legend Mijaín López (130), Luis Orta (67), and Gabriel Rosillo (97), while Yarisleidis Cirilo in speed canoeing cannot be overlooked either.
