Tropical storm Debby leaves heavy rains in western Cuba

The forecast is that the rains will continue throughout today and may again be heavy at times.

In El Cerro, the rain was stronger, according to what the communicator said on his Facebook profile.

Several videos and images shared by Alonso showed that the streets of the Cuban capital were wet and empty during his journey.

On the other hand, some heavy rains affected the province of Artemisa.

"During the last 24 hours, numerous rains have been reported in the province with significant accumulations, classified as locally intense rainfall. In these areas of rain, somewhat strong winds were reported with a gust of 57 km/h coming from the South at the Güira de Melena weather station," specified the meteorologist Raydel Ruisanchez.

The specialist indicated that, according to the rain gauge network of the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources and the meteorological stations in the province, the highest accumulations were in:

Maurín Aqueduct, Bauta with 265.0 mm.

Bauta Weather Station with 187.0 mm.

Güira de Melena weather station with 171.8 mm.

La Coronela Reservoir, Caimito with 156.0 mm.

Baracoa Reservoir, Bauta with 119.0 mm.

Pinillo Reservoir, Mariel with 117.0 mm.

Alquízar Aqueduct with 110.0 mm.

The forecast is that the rains will continue throughout today and may again be strong in some areas, with a decrease expected for Monday as this system moves further north, reported the meteorologist from Artemisa.

Debby became a Tropical Storm on Saturday afternoon, posing the greatest threat of torrential rains and coastal flooding for much of Florida.

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) reported that the system strengthened to become a tropical storm, in the sixth advisory issued by the U.S. weather agency.

In its ninth bulletin, published this Sunday, the NHC reports that Debby is likely to strengthen rapidly before making landfall in the Big Bend region of Florida.

They assure that there are major flooding threats in that area of the southern United States.
