Cuban wrestlers Yusneylis Guzmán (50 kg), in women's freestyle, and Gabriel Rosillo (97), in men's Greco-Roman, advanced to the semifinals of the wrestling tournament at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

After defeating the Lithuanian Gabija Dilyte with a score of 10-0, Guzmán advanced to the next round of her respective category, where she will face the Indian Vinesh Phogat.

Guzmán, known as the Chiqui of Cuba, is the first woman to reach an Olympic semifinal for the island.

While Rosillo advanced to the quarter-finals after defeating the German Lucas Alexandros Lazogianis (7-5). In that stage, he was superior, winning 5-2 against the Finnish Arvi Savolainen.

Rosillo, who is the world champion from Belgrade 2023, will face Armenian Artur Aleksanyan, the Olympic champion in Rio 2016 and runner-up at the Tokyo 2020 Summer Games, in an attempt to reach the final.

Specifically, in the Serbian capital, Aleksanyan was the opponent that the Cuban defeated to become the world champion last year.

Yusneylis Guzmán holds the Pan American title in the 50 kg women's category, won at the Santiago 2023 event.

The other representatives from the island, Kevin de Armas (60 kg) and Yosvany Peña (77 kg), were unable to advance in their respective matches.

De Armas lost in the repechage against the Iranian Mehdi Moisés Nejad, with a score of 1-10. Meanwhile, Peña also did not achieve victory against the Iranian Amin Kaviyaninejad (1-1).

Cuba is in 66th place in the medal standings with just one bronze, obtained by Arlen López (80 kg, boxing), but it already has at least two silvers secured with Erislandy Álvarez (boxing) and Mijaín López (wrestling).
