The Cuban influencer Sulmira Martínez Pérez, known on social media as Salem, will face trial on August 12 in a court in Havana for saying on Facebook that she would go out to protest in the streets.
The news was confirmed to journalist Mónica Baró by her mother, Norma Pérez, who has been denouncing her daughter's situation since her arrest.
Sulmira, 22 years old, has been detained since January 10, 2023, for calling for a protest on social media, urging Cubans to replicate the peaceful demonstrations of July 11, 2021.
After her arrest, she was initially imprisoned in Villa Marista, where she faced inhumane and degrading treatment before being transferred to the women's prison in El Guatao, where she currently remains.
The Cuban Prosecutor's Office requested a joint sentence of 10 years in prison for the young woman in June, accused of contempt and committing crimes against the constitutional order.
According to the media outlet Martí Noticias, the requested sentence includes two years for contempt and nine years for crimes against the constitutional order, in addition to the deprivation of rights, the confiscation of assets, and the prohibition from leaving the country, in accordance with articles 42.1, 52.1, and 59.1 of the Penal Code.
Despite not having a criminal record, Sulmira has been under precautionary measure of provisional imprisonment since her arrest.
Pérez said that his daughter has been given "things that are not true, things that are true, but things that are lies," and stated that the young woman "is extremely angry."
Pérez has reported that the accusations are based on questionable evidence, including a statement obtained under pressure and results from searches of his phone and his house in Las Guásimas, a municipality in Arroyo Naranjo, Havana.
