Electric motorcycles, vehicles that thousands of Cubans have been forced to use to cope with the transportation crisis, continue to raise concern and cause losses, as battery explosions and fires are reported almost daily, turning many of these vehicles to ashes, as happened this Wednesday in Vedado, Havana.

A user shared on Facebook a video of a scooter whose battery exploded while it was parked near the intersection of 23rd and 26th streets in the Havana neighborhood.

Presumably, the incident resulted only in material damage and no one was injured, although that information was not specified in the reel.

The author of the post celebrated that the motorcycle was parked, to which it could be added that it was not inside a residence or parking lot, as has happened in other incidents with fatal outcomes in recent years.

The fires involving electric motorcycles have caused significant losses of property and resources in the country, such as the incident reported in Santa Clara, where the explosion of a battery from a motorbike that was charging engulfed a garage in flames within minutes and left a Lada car charred.

Another fire in Camagüey, due to the same cause, burned part of a house, caused the ceiling of the living room to collapse, and destroyed another gasoline motorcycle that was inside the home. The residents were able to escape in time from the back of the property.

Unfortunately, other families have not been as lucky. Two fires that occurred in June in homes in Havana due to the explosion of electric motorcycle batteries ended in tragedy, causing the death of several people.

At the beginning of that month, a couple and their 21-year-old son lost their lives in an accident that occurred in the early morning at their home in Playa.

Two weeks later, the explosion of a gas stove in another home ignited a fire that resulted in the deaths of a couple and severe injuries to their three children. The nine-year-old boy died after spending several days in critical condition.
