A passenger plane with 62 people on board crashed on Friday afternoon in a rural area of São Paulo, Brazil, while attempting to land at Guarulhos Airport.
Videos recorded by residents captured the moment when the craft lost control and fell spinning in the early afternoon of this Friday in the Capela neighborhood of Vinhedo.
Other publications show the aircraft exploding after the impact, very close to a residential area. It was in ruins and on fire.
The aircraft had 58 passengers and four crew members on board.
President Luiz Inácio Lula Da Silva announced in a live address that there are no survivors and asked those present for a moment of silence for the victims.
According to the Military Police, they received an emergency call at 1:28 PM on João Edueta Street, near Miguel Melhado de Campos Avenue (SP-324). Currently, there are seven rescue and salvage teams involved, the Fire Department of Brazil stated in a post.
Police teams quickly arrived at the scene of the accident.
The crashed plane was a twin-engine passenger aircraft, model ATR-72, that departed from Cascavel, Paraná, heading to Guarulhos Airport, São Paulo.
This model has a capacity for 68 passengers, but only 62 were traveling, according to the authorities.
The hospitals in Vinhedo and Valinhos were mobilized to receive possible injuries, as the aircraft crashed near a rural area with houses.
The Fire Department, Civil Defense, and Military Police are working on-site to manage the situation and provide assistance.
Local authorities remain at the accident site, and more details are expected to be provided as investigations into the causes of the incident progress.
