A PZL M-18 aircraft, commonly known as a "dromedary" or agricultural plane, crashed to the ground on the morning of this Thursday near the town of Peralejo, in the municipality of La Sierpe, in the province of Sancti Spíritus.
The plane crash occurred while the aircraft was conducting a routine fumigation in the rice fields.
Ernesto Cuéllar, director of the ENSA Sancti Spíritus Business Unit, confirmed the accident to the state newspaper Escambray.
Dr. Eduardo Contreras Lara, director of Regional Base No. 10 of the Integrated Medical Emergency System in Sancti Spíritus, reported that the pilot, Armando Leyva Sosa, 57, sustained a mild cranial trauma and a blood pressure imbalance.
In April, a helicopter from the Armed Forces (FAR) crashed in Santiago de Cuba.
Preliminary data indicated that there were no survivors in the incident. The MI-17 helicopter, number H-115, fell from a height of about ten meters.
Allegedly, the military aircraft was supporting the visit of Army General Raúl Castro, who was in Santiago de Cuba with Miguel Díaz-Canel and other Cuban political leaders, participating in the ceremony for the reburial of the remains of fighters from the Third Eastern Front.
