A PZL M-18 aircraft, commonly known as a "dromedary" or agricultural plane, crashed to the ground on Thursday morning near the town of Peralejo, in the municipality of La Sierpe, in the province of Sancti Spiritus.
The plane crash occurred while the aircraft was performing a routine fumigation in the rice fields.
Ernesto Cuéllar, director of the ENSA Sancti Spiritus Base Business Unit, confirmed the accident to the official newspaper Escambray.
Doctor Eduardo Contreras Lara, director of Regional Base No. 10 of the Integrated Medical Emergency System of Sancti Spiritus, reported that the pilot, Armando Leyva Sosa, 57 years old, suffered a mild head injury and a blood pressure imbalance.
Last April, a helicopter belonging to the Armed Forces (FAR) crashed in Santiago de Cuba.
The preliminary data indicated that there were no survivors in the accident. The MI-17 helicopter with the registration number H-115, fell from a height of about ten meters.
Allegedly, the military aircraft was supporting the visit of Army General Raúl Castro, who was in Santiago de Cuba with Miguel Díaz-Canel and other Cuban political leaders, participating in the burial ceremony of fighters from the Third Eastern Front.
