The Cuban double bassist Leo Luna Roblejo won a $250,000 scholarship to study for a bachelor's degree at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, United States.
The Colombian Sebastián Yatra and the Latin Grammy Cultural Foundation awarded this scholarship to the 22-year-old musician born in Havana, a graduate of the Amadeo Roldán Conservatory of Music, who currently lives in Miami.
"It is a great honor for me to have been chosen by Sebastián Yatra and the Latin Grammy Foundation as the winner of the Scholarship award to pursue my studies at Berklee College of Music. I really didn't expect it, and I am very excited to be able to make this dream come true. This is something I have always dreamed of," said the young man after receiving the scholarship.
Sebastián Yatra declared to EFE that upon hearing Leo play his double bass, "it was like a bolt of lightning with him as a musician. I believe he has so much to offer to music in Spanish and everywhere. He brings a different proposal."
The Colombian, who is this year the sponsor of the scholarship named after him, highlighted "the 'difference' that the so-called Prodigy Scholarship can make for a double bassist like Leo."
According to the EFE publication, the scholarship will cover "tuition fees, accommodation, comprehensive services that include ongoing tutoring and programs with the foundation."
