The passionate animal advocate, Yenney Caballero, shared a touching testimony on social media about the abuse suffered by a puppy in her neighborhood in San José de Las Lajas, Mayabeque. The puppy was forcibly driven away with a stick by a woman who identified herself as a Christian while trying to seek shelter in a doorway.
The activist reported on Facebook that the small dog, apparently abandoned and exhausted from the heat and hunger, tried to take shelter in a home; however, the homeowner reacted by hitting the puppy with a broom to scare it away.
Outraged by the cruelty of the scene, Caballero confronted the neighbor, reminding her that before identifying as a Christian, she should strive to be a better human being.
After the incident, the animal shelter followed the scared puppy, successfully rescuing him and taking him to their facility.
"It's beautiful; it just needs a little love and care. If someone wants to give it a chance, it's up for adoption. Remember, adopting means saving a life, and that way you help create space for others that need to be rescued," the young woman pointed out.
This Tuesday, Caballero shared a video on social media showing the rescue of a dog that had been abandoned in a city dump.
The dog, still a puppy, had a fracture in its hind legs, according to the young woman in the video.
Pets, often operating outside the law, are cared for thanks to the efforts of animal advocates.
This Monday, animal welfare advocates in Havana announced on social media that they had raised the necessary funds to perform surgery on Sara, one of the dogs that survived the explosion at the Saratoga Hotel.
Activist Teresa Díaz announced on Facebook that they had raised the 5,000 pesos needed to pay for the surgery of the dog, who has a tumor on her face, as well as the transportation required to carry out the procedure.
