The fervent animal protector, Yenney Caballero, shared a moving testimony on social media about the mistreatment suffered by a puppy in her neighborhood in San José de Las Lajas, Mayabeque, when it was chased away with sticks by a woman who identified herself as Christian while trying to take refuge in a doorway.

The activist recounted on Facebook that the small dog, apparently abandoned and exhausted from the heat and hunger, tried to take shelter in a house; however, the homeowner reacted by hitting the puppy with a broom to scare it away.

Outraged by the cruelty of the scene, Caballero confronted the neighbor, reminding her that before proclaiming herself a Christian, she should be a better human being.

After the incident, the animal shelter followed the frightened puppy, successfully rescuing it and taking it to their home.

"It is beautiful, it just needs a little love, food. If someone wants to give it a chance, it is up for adoption. Remember, if you adopt, you save a life, and in this way, you help me make room for others that need to be saved," pointed out the young woman.

This Tuesday, Caballero shared a video on social media showing the rescue of a dog that was abandoned in a city dumpster.

The dog, still a puppy, had a fracture in his hind legs, according to the young woman in the video.

Pets, often operating outside the law, are cared for thanks to the work of animal rights activists.

This Monday, the protectors in Havana informed on social media that they managed to raise the necessary money to operate on Sara, one of the puppies that survived the explosion at the Saratoga hotel.
