Facebook user Laury Alma reported a case of child exploitation that she witnessed in Plaza Vieja in Havana recently.

It is reported that on three consecutive occasions, during the day and night, a girl persistently followed her asking for money, claiming it was for food. At a distance, the girl's father observed the situation while drinking. Then the man scolded the girl for not getting the money.

Laury Alma described the girl as "super intense," persistent, and detailed that when she did not receive money, she began to insult passersby with vulgar words, which increased the frustration and hopelessness regarding the complex case of child exploitation.

"What future do those children have? Why are there no laws protecting children from that exploitation in Cuba? How can we guide the behavior of children growing up in those conditions?" Laury wondered and asserted that "every day it is getting worse."

The situation being reported is a reflection of the deep crisis that Cuba is experiencing, where poverty, lack of resources, and loss of values are severely impacting the younger generations.

The situation is so severe that this summer, for the first time, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) included Cuba in its assessment of child nutrition, highlighting that 9% of children on the island suffer from severe food insecurity.

This means that Cuban children only have access to a maximum of two out of the eight essential foods for a healthy life.

The desperation of families, who cannot meet the basic needs of their children, leads to situations such as using children to beg. Cases can be found both in the capital and in other cities across the country.

While this is happening in the streets of Old Havana, in another area of the city, El Vedado, the Cuban regime is promoting its indoctrination policies to the new generations.

Around the anniversary of Fidel Castro's birth, the center dedicated to studying his life and work opened its doors to hold a museography workshop aimed at children. The little ones served as museum guides for a few hours, presenting the exhibitions related to the dictator to the visitors (their parents).

The complaint by Laury Alma and the case of the workshop at the Centro Fidel Castro are reflections of the profound contradictions that Cuba faces in the treatment of child protection programs.

While in some areas of the country children are exploited and subjected to extreme poverty, in others they are indoctrinated to exalt the figure of a communist leader, a symbol of the regime that perpetuates their suffering.

This situation leaves a lot of uncertainty about the future of Cuban children and highlights the little attention the State is paying to the protection and development of new generations.
