Cubans have registered over 67,600 vehicles assembled from parts and pieces, mostly motorcycles.

A total of 44,664 motorcycles, 7,649 mopeds, and 6,050 tricycles have been registered. The deadline closes on August 22.

Cuban drivers have registered more than 67,600 armed vehicles, parts, and pieces (VAP) since June 24, when the last homologation process for this type of transportation began.

Eduardo Rodríguez Dávila, Minister of Transport, detailed that as of August 12, just a few days before the census ended, 67,675 vehicles had been registered, of which 44,664 are motorcycles.

"1,723 cars, 493 trucks, 7,649 mopeds, 2,997 trailers, and 6,050 tricycles were registered," said the head on his Facebook wall.

"The provinces with the highest number of registered vehicles are: Camagüey, Artemisa, Holguín, Pinar del Río, and Havana," he added.

The registration of the VAP on the website set up for that purpose is the first step towards the definitive legalization of these cars assembled by the population from parts and pieces, which have helped alleviate the situation of many families amid a widespread public transport crisis that the regime is unable to resolve.

The deadline for individuals to access the census on the platform www.vap.transnet.cu is August 22. After that, it will only be available for users to consult their files.

This is the second census, aimed at the homologation (legalization) of vehicles that, for various reasons, were not able to be registered in the initial process - those that were declared unfit due to solvable technical aspects or were not accepted - as long as they have addressed the noted issues.

A new feature in the process is that the owner who is abroad or has any impediment that prevents their physical presence at the time of the census can appoint a legal representative.

It is also allowed to register a motor vehicle with its trailer or semitrailer in the census.

In December, the Ministry of Transport announced an extension of the deadline for the certification of VAPs, which had come into effect in September 2021 through Resolution 200.

Although the homologation process was scheduled to end on December 31, 2023, it was extended until the legalization and delivery of the plates for all vehicles processed by the provinces.

In March 2022, it was reported that Cuba would incorporate more than 100,000 armed vehicles made from parts or modified into the vehicle fleet circulating in the country.

"This will affect circulation and road safety, increasing congestion and the vulnerability of these means," stated Reinaldo Becerra Acosta, secretary of the National Road Safety Commission.
