A 31-year-old Cuban woman, 33 weeks pregnant, is recovering favorably from a complex surgical intervention performed at the Lucía Íñiguez clinical-surgical hospital in Holguín, following the fracture she suffered in her distal femur C3 due to a traffic accident she had this week.

According to the local publication Ahora, specialists from the mentioned center and from Vladimir I. Lenin were responsible for the surgical procedure, which lasted an hour and a half and involved the implantation of external fixators.

The pregnant patient, whose identity has not been provided by the official digital site, presented multiple risks, although no negative unforeseen events occurred during the multidisciplinary intervention.

"In this highly complex surgical procedure due to the advanced stage of pregnancy of the young woman, orthopedic surgeons Eranio Henríquez Ruiz and Víctor Cruz Velázquez participated, along with anesthesiologist Aidan Pérez, and Dr. Ibrahín Carmenate Leyva, among others."

Specialists in neonatology, gynecology-obstetrics, intensive care, and cardiology continued to monitor the intervention.

The hospital Lenin's Facebook page posted photos of the operation – which it called a "feat" – and of the participating team, expressing that it felt "satisfaction for a duty fulfilled."

Less sober in its narration of the event was the page of the Lucía Íñiguez hospital on that social network. The editor resorted to the usual ideological rhetoric and stated that the success of the operation "will not only be a milestone for the city, but also a testament to the strength and resilience of its people, especially in the field of healthcare," and a demonstration that "Holguín is moving forward with determination towards the future, with eyes set on the venue for July 26, 2025."
