A preliminary magnitude 3.3 earthquake on the Richter scale was felt this Monday at 7:18 PM in the city of Santiago de Cuba.
According to the coordinates provided by Enrique Diego Arango, head of the National Seismological Service of the National Center for Seismological Research (CENAIS), the earthquake was located at 19.78 degrees north latitude and 75.51 degrees west longitude.
This seismic event is the tenth perceptible one of 2024.
According to CENAIS, the epicenter was located 44 km southwest of the municipality of Niceto Pérez and 50 km southeast of the city of Santiago de Cuba.
Reports of perceptibility were received in several localities of the province; however, as of 8:05 PM, no material or human damages had been recorded, the information emphasized.
In June, the ninth perceptible earthquake of the year was recorded in the same city, one of the areas with the highest seismic activity in the country.
On that occasion, the earthquake was recorded at 10:54 AM with a magnitude of 4.3 at a depth of 25.5 km, located 7 km south of the city.
No material or human damage was reported, although the earthquake was felt in several locations in the provinces of Santiago de Cuba, Guantánamo, Granma, and Holguín.
