The 18-year-old Yilena Cepa, who had been missing for a week in Santiago de Cuba, was found alive on Friday, under circumstances that have not been revealed.

The rescuer Aris Arias Batalla, who last Tuesday shared the case online at the request of the girl's family, reported on his Facebook wall that the teenager is safe and sound.

"Yilena Cepa, 18 years old, originally from Songo la Maya, who had been missing, was found today. This is what her family informed me this afternoon, expressing their gratitude to everyone for their concerns..." he said.

The girl had last been seen on Saturday, August 17, when she left her home to work in the city of Santiago de Cuba. Since then, no one has heard from her.

For its part, the independent feminist platform Alas Tensas closed the alert it had issued for Yilena and thanked everyone who somehow contributed to her search and location.

"The young woman has already been located by her family, according to what the Gender Observatory of Alas Tensas was able to verify through the contact that was spread on social media," it added on its Facebook profile.
