"Here there are no compliments": Cuban in Sweden shares her first cultural clashes

On TikTok, she talked about some of the things that impacted her the most upon arriving in the country.

A Cuban woman who has been living in Sweden for 8 years shared on TikTok her initial cultural shocks upon arriving in the Nordic country.

In her video, she shared how one of the differences she noticed the most was discovering that in Sweden, compliments on appearance practically do not exist. "I was thinking, am I so ugly that these people don't even give a compliment or anything?" she commented in the clip posted on @cubans.shopp. She was also amazed to find out that, on many occasions, it is women who take the initiative in relationships. Another surprise was that when going out with someone, the bill is split in half, something that, according to her, was a real "shock."

The followers did not take long to react. One user commented: "I think that's how it is, humans adapt to everything, and we Cubans even more." The creator responded that, although she has adapted to many things, she still can't handle the darkness of winter, which only gives them three hours of light a day. Another follower, recalling shared moments, told her: "Ha! The video is awesome! I won’t forget those big black eyes full of questions and uncertainty"; "Greetings from Germany, new compatriot follower, here the Germans say they are halbe halbe too when inviting to go out," said another.

Stories like these often provoke debates on social media among those who have gone through similar experiences. Have you faced a cultural shock while living abroad? What do you think of this young Cuban's opinion?
