Bahamas authorities repatriated 16 irregular migrants to Cuba by air this Wednesday, arriving at José Martí International Airport in Havana.

The group of returnees consists of nine men, four women, and three minors, all residents of the Villa Clara province, as detailed by the Ministry of the Interior (MININT) in X.

The repatriated individuals had illegally left the country by sea and were intercepted by the authorities of The Bahamas.

The official statement specifies that one of the returned Cubans "was transferred to the investigative body for being suspected of committing a crime."

The report adds that the Cuban authorities "remain steadfast in their commitment to safe and orderly migration," and reiterates "the danger and risk conditions for life that illegal departures from the country represent," especially when minors are involved in these events.

With this operation, number 66, the total number of citizens from the island deported from various countries in the region has reached 1,046 in 2024.

This same week, on Tuesday, 48 Cubans deported from the United States arrived on the island.

Cuba maintains an unprecedented migratory exodus in recent years, which has left the country's population below nine million inhabitants.
