A student from the University of Havana reported a pattern of thefts in student scholarships during holiday periods in a message sent to CiberCuba through our Instagram chat.

The young Cuban, whose name we prefer to keep anonymous, expressed the frustration of the residents who are forced to leave some belongings in their rooms at the Lázaro Cuevas residence, better known as F and 3ra, due to the impossibility of taking everything with them when leaving for short breaks.

According to what he explained, despite the fact that belongings are kept under lock in lockers, upon returning to the space located in El Vedado, they find that these have been forced open and their personal items, such as buckets, stoves, pots, cauldrons, and even clothes, have been stolen.

He stated that the scholarship office assumes no responsibility, claiming that students were informed about the need to completely empty their rooms, something he considers unfeasible.

The university student emphasized that this situation is not new and occurs every time there is a break, severely affecting the students, who feel demotivated by the lack of security and the absence of actions from the authorities of the institution.

It also raised doubts about who could be responsible, pointing to the maintenance workers and the custodians, as they are the only ones who remain on the premises during the holidays.

Despite a formal complaint being made, the young woman fears that a proper investigation will not take place and that the thefts will continue without consequences.

Just for that reason, with the hope that his testimony reaches the competent authorities and measures are taken regarding it, he made a call for the story to be published so that the situation is known by a larger number of people.
