Students in Santiago de Cuba forced to sit on the floor due to a lack of chairs and tables

Parents continue to debunk the Cuban regime on social media by demonstrating that, contrary to official propaganda, conditions have not been established for the start of the school year.

Although the Cuban regime announced that the conditions were in place for the start of the 2024-2025 school year, the reality is far from the official propaganda.

In the schools of Santiago de Cuba, students are forced to sit on the floor of classrooms or in hallways due to a lack of chairs and tables, a situation that, as journalist Yosmany Mayeta reported on Facebook, highlights the lies of the Cuban government.

The communicator shared some images taken at the Eugenio Noques Vera School, depicting students in inadequate conditions and highlighting the inability of educational centers to accommodate all students properly.

Some internet users informed the journalist that "there is no capacity to accommodate students in the school," a problem that is impacting young people without any sign of a solution from government officials or the education sector.

The deterioration of the facilities and the lack of adequate furniture further exacerbate the situation, leaving parents concerned about the conditions in which students are receiving their education.

Mayeta urged parents and the community at large not to allow this unfortunate situation to persist, as students are the primary victims of the authorities' inaction.

In the comments section, Ana Idelys reported that her son, who is in the eighth grade at the Abel Santamaría secondary school in micro 1A, spends entire mornings sitting in the parks due to a lack of classrooms.

"It is a disrespectful situation what is happening to the students: the poor snacks, the sour and warm yogurt, and let's not even mention the bread. Some parents have complained to the school administration, but the principal told us that it is the municipality and the province that do not want to provide a solution," she pointed out.

The situation is not new in the schools of Santiago de Cuba. Last Monday, Mayeta highlighted on social media the distress and anxiety of parents whose children encountered a chaotic environment upon attending school.

"Our page received this report from the Francisco Maceo Osorio Basic Secondary School, located in the town of Altamira, where students are having to sit on the floor due to a lack of desks and chairs," he stated.

"There are no conditions to place the students, and some teachers at the center do not agree with working this way," a mother told the reporter.

In August, just before the start of the school year, a Cuban mother took to social media to express her outrage over the poor conditions of the classroom where her child would be attending classes.

Lianet Oyasita, a resident of Havana, shared a video on her Facebook wall that was recorded in a fourth-grade classroom, and she clarified that the others are in the same condition.

Something similar sparked the outrage of a Cuban mother, who reported that the primary school her son attends in Havana is surrounded by sewage and has a massive garbage dump on the corner.

The children of the José Manuel Lazo de la Vega Quintana Special School in Marianao attend classes in an unhealthy environment. They have to use a dangerous manhole cover as a step to access the educational facility. The stench permeates the classrooms.
