The right-handed pitcher from Camagüey, José Ramón Rodríguez, requested his release from the Cuban Baseball Federation, which was recently granted.

Pelota Cubana announced that this decision by the 31-year-old pitcher could be related to the intention of continuing his career independently in professional baseball.

Rodríguez, at the beginning of 2024, participated with the Samanes de Aragua in the Major League of Professional Baseball (LMBP) in Venezuela and is now preparing to play in the Winter League with the Caribes de Anzoátegui, a prestigious team in the South American country.

The experienced pitcher was being considered to join the pitching staff of Cuba for the Premier 12, which will no longer be possible.

The player has had an outstanding career in baseball in Cuba. Rodríguez has participated in 12 National Series with a record of 50 wins and 43 losses, and an ERA of 3.66 over 774.1 innings of work. Throughout his career, he has allowed 315 earned runs, struck out 456 batters, and issued 251 walks.

His debut in the Series 50, 2010-2011 season, was under the command of coach Luis Ulacia. The right-hander also was part of several national teams, including the team that participated in the World Baseball Classic, where he pitched in two games.

In addition, during his first professional experience in Nicaragua with the Tigres de Chinandega, Rodríguez had a good performance, recording an ERA of 4.66 and a record of 1-0. He suffered an injury, which forced him to return to Cuba to be treated by the island's sports doctors.

In his most recent participation in the National Series 63, the Camagüeyano achieved a record of 5-3 with an ERA of 2.57, establishing himself as one of the most consistent pitchers in the tournament.
