In search of joining the Major League Baseball (MLB) system, promising pitcher Ediel Ponce, Rookie of the Year of the last National Series, left Cuba in the last few hours heading to the Dominican Republic.

According to journalist Francys Romero on his digital page Beisbol FR, Ponce, who is only 17 years old, led the island championship with an impressive ERA of 2.15, after accumulating 71 innings and 43 strikeouts.

Likewise, the young man was part of the Cuba U-18 team, where he played a crucial role in the World Pre-Qualifier held in Panama from August 2 to 11, working 14 innings and allowing only five hits for an average of .111.

A few days ago, the prospect Jonathan Raúl Delgado, son and grandson of two prominent ballplayers from Sancti Spíritus, also left the country with his mother recently to settle in the Dominican Republic.

According to Romero, Delgado is a promising 15-year-old switch hitter whose future intention is to sign a contract with Major League Baseball.

Grandson of José Raúl Delgado and son of the late Yoanys Delgado, the teenager is 1.90 meters tall, weighs 198 pounds, and, like his predecessors, plays as a catcher.

Weeks earlier, as part of the unstoppable exodus of Cuban athletes, the young Xian Vega, son of the renowned actor Herón Vega, traveled to Nicaragua with the same goal of signing with a MLB organization.
