A horse was seriously injured with machetes this Sunday in Sancti Spíritus, which prompted the swift mobilization of animal rights activists who have been fighting to save its life since then.

The ARCA Sancti Spíritus Foundation reported on Facebook that the animal was attacked with machetes in the Olivos 3 neighborhood, highlighting the need for all animal rights activists to come together to save the life of the horse, which was seriously injured.

In a second post, the organization emphasized that the incident occurred during a brawl, in which the horse and its owner were injured.

"Quickly, our volunteers Yania, Disley, and Yamirna went to the location and administered first aid while waiting for veterinary assistance. They themselves managed to establish an intravenous line and provided fluids, as the horse had lost a lot of blood," ARCA said.

In addition, they reported that the deep wounds affected important arteries and caused a significant loss of blood, which was contained thanks to the quick intervention of several people in the health sector.

According to ARCA, the owner of the animal refused to have it euthanized, despite some people present advising him to do so, and at this moment the horse is stable, standing, and eating.

Although the injured animal shows signs of recovery, its life remains in danger, which is why the animal protection organization urgently requested help on Facebook this Monday to obtain anti-inflammatory medications suitable for horses, suggesting the use of Meloxicam as an alternative in case other medications are not found.

The request was directed to all veterinarians in the province, asking for the message to be spread in order to obtain the medication as soon as possible, emphasizing the urgency of the needed assistance.

The facts and reports reflecting the lack of protection for animals in Cuba demonstrate the regime's lack of willingness to provide them with adequate protection.

In August, animal protector Yenney Caballero reported a new case of animal abuse in San José de las Lajas, Mayabeque, where horses used for pulling carts are forced to stay in the sun, loaded with heavy burdens, while their owners rest in the shade.

Caballero stated on Facebook that he was able to see with his own eyes the sad reality of these animals: while their caregivers take shelter in the shade, chatting and laughing, the horses remain in the sun, dry and thin, with their heads down, burning like slaves.

It is not the first time that activists have denounced this type of mistreatment on social media, which, however, takes on different nuances in other places.

In July, Cuban animal protectors reported on social media that, by order of the police in Varadero, Matanzas province, the horse-drawn carriages used by tourists had to wait in the sun until rented, in an area devoid of trees or roofs providing shade.

Miriam Romero Nasiff reported in the Facebook group “Protective Society of Animals in Cuba” that the police ordered the carriage drivers to place the horses in an area under the intense sun, without a roof, trees, or awnings that provide shade.
