A horse was seriously injured by machete blows this Sunday in Sancti Spíritus, prompting a swift response from animal rights activists who have been fighting to save its life ever since.

The ARCA Sancti Spíritus Foundation reported on Facebook that the animal was attacked with a machete in the Olivos 3 neighborhood, emphasizing the need for all animal advocates to come together to save the life of the severely injured horse.

In a second publication, the organization clarified that the incident occurred during a fight, in which both the horse and its owner were injured.

"Quickly, our volunteers Yania, Disley, and Yamirna went to the location and provided first aid while waiting for veterinary assistance. They managed to find a vein and administered fluids, as the horse had lost a lot of blood," ARCA indicated.

They also reported that the serious injuries impacted major arteries and caused significant blood loss, which was contained thanks to the swift intervention of several individuals from the healthcare sector.

According to ARCA, the horse's owner refused to have it euthanized, despite being advised to do so by some individuals present. The horse is currently stable, standing, and eating.

Although the injured animal shows signs of recovery, its life remains in danger. Therefore, the animal protection organization urgently requested help on Facebook this Monday to obtain anti-inflammatory medication suitable for horses, suggesting the use of Meloxicam as an alternative if other medications are not available.

The request was directed to all veterinarians in the province, asking for the message to be shared in order to obtain the medication as soon as possible, emphasizing the urgency of the needed assistance.

The facts and reports highlighting the lack of protection for animals in Cuba demonstrate the regime's unwillingness to provide them with proper safeguards.

In August, animal protector Yenney Caballero reported a new case of animal mistreatment in San José de las Lajas, Mayabeque, where horses used to pull carts are forced to stay out in the sun, burdened with heavy loads, while their owners rest in the shade.

Caballero stated on Facebook that he was able to witness firsthand the sad reality of these animals: while their caretakers seek refuge in the shade, chatting and laughing, the horses remain under the sun, emaciated, with their heads down, burning like slaves.

This is not the first time that activists have reported this kind of mistreatment on social media, which, however, takes on different nuances in other places.

In July, Cuban animal protectors reported on social media that, by order of the police in Varadero, Matanzas province, the horse-drawn carriages used by tourists had to wait under the sun until rented, in an area lacking trees or any roofs that provide shade.

Miriam Romero Nasiff reported in the Facebook group "Animal Protection Society in Cuba" that the police ordered the carriage drivers to place the horses in an area under the intense sun, with neither roofs, trees, nor awnings to provide shade.
