The Cuban TikToker Yanet, known on social media as @yanetatlanta, had a tense experience during her interview to obtain U.S. citizenship.
Since her arrival at the government office, Yanet faced several setbacks that made her think she wouldn’t get through the process. One of the most critical moments was when, waiting in line, she realized she had forgotten her driver's license, a crucial document for the interview.
"I start to see that everyone has their appointment in hand and their driver's license. Just at that moment, I realize that I had left my license behind. I felt my blood pressure drop. It was something that made me feel nervous, and I started to sweat and became super anxious," she commented.
Nerves took over her, but fortunately, she remembered that she had a photo of the license on her phone, which allowed her to show it to the officer and continue with the interview.
"Then she said to me: 'Raise your hand, we are going to take the oath.' I took the oath and went straight to the civic questions. I got one question wrong! But I corrected myself," said Yanet. She managed to correct it in time and was able to pass that part of the process.
Finally, after several moments of tension, the officer confirmed to him that he had passed the interview and offered him the opportunity to participate in the swearing-in ceremony on the same day.
She told me: "Congratulations, this paper means you are approved. Do you want to have the ceremony today?" At that moment, I said: "Yes," the Cuban recounted.
After receiving her certificate, Yanet celebrated the achievement at a nearby bakery and then took the opportunity to register to vote and apply for her U.S. passport.
"I finished looking very beautiful, but eating a box of croquettes," said the Cuban after overcoming the long minutes of stress to achieve one of her dreams in the United States.
