This is how the Revolutionary Navy celebrated its anniversary.

The military and civilian personnel of the Dos Bahías unit lost their composure, leaving strange images on social media of elite uniformed members, who are traditionally sober and reserved.

The Revolutionary Navy (MGR), part of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR) of the Cuban regime, celebrated the 61st anniversary of its founding with a party where officers and cadets were seen uninhibited in their dancing, presenting an unusual image for the Navy, a military body known for its elitism and sobriety.

Officers, troops, and civilian personnel from the MGR unit located in Punta Dos Bahías, Holguín, participated last Thursday in a party organized for the occasion, where the band Karachi provided the music and the audience brought the revelry to the dance floor, according to images shared on social media.

The official journalist Emilio Rodríguez Pupo shared on his Facebook a series of photographs in which the personnel of the unit can be seen letting loose in a celebration that left strange images among traditionally sober and solemn uniformed individuals.

"Proven: with Karachi 'no one stands firm' in Dos Bahías. The Santiago group, under the guidance of master Fernando Álvarez, made officers, sailors, and civilian workers of the naval unit dance today, on the occasion of the day of the Revolutionary Navy. This was the celebration for those who do not sleep for the security of the Cuban seas," Rodríguez Pupo said in his post.

The chaos made no distinction between officers and cadets, and the personnel of the Naval Unit of Dos Bahías surrendered to the music of Karachi, abandoning all martiality and dancing with their hands up as if the ship of the so-called "revolution" were not going through moments of upheaval.

Made up of more than 20,000 sailors and equipped with 27 ships and 26 aircraft, the MGR is responsible for "the defense of the coasts and territorial waters of the Republic of Cuba against any possible military attack against the Caribbean nation by hostile forces," according to the MINFAR.

Cuba has 5,746 kilometers of coastline and 28.5 kilometers of borders with the U.S. naval base located in Guantanamo Bay. The Cuban Navy was founded in 1909 as the Constitutional Navy of Cuba. During World War II, the Cuban Navy sank the German submarine U-176 of the Kriegsmarine on May 15, 1943.

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the MGR refurbished a Spanish fishing vessel that it uses as a frigate. Additionally, it maintains 12 Ukrainian-made Zhuk patrol boats and two Russian-made Stenka vessels. Six Russian missile boats, eight minesweepers, and one corvette from the same country complete the fleet.
