The popular YouTuber Iván Valdés Permuy, better known as "Listillo Cubano," has once again caused a stir with a prank that elicited laughter but also sparked a reflection on the economic reality of the island.
On this occasion, the Listillo focused on surprising waiters and bartenders in Havana by paying for his consumption with 3, 5, and 10 peso bills, along with piles of 1 peso coins. What was curious was not only the unusual denominations of the bills but also the absurdly difficult amounts to count.
Armed with a suitcase, in the purest style of a millionaire who has just withdrawn his fortune from the bank, the Cuban scammer was pulling out bundles of cash and bags of coins to pay for products like coffees, ice creams, beers, and even a dinner worth thousands of pesos.
The shocked looks of the waiters quickly turned into laughter as they understood the joke. In a country where one dollar is equivalent to 320 Cuban pesos, even the simplest purchases can turn into a numerical nightmare.
The hidden camera generated comedic moments, but this prank did not fail to deliver a direct message about the economic crisis that the country is experiencing.
Uncontrolled inflation and the devaluation of the Cuban peso have led to surreal scenes like the one represented by the Listillo Cubano.
While humor is a momentary relief, it should not be forgotten that the reality faced by Cubans every day is becoming increasingly complex, and paying for even the most basic necessities seems like an impossible mission.
