Children have to cross flooded roads to get to their school in Granma.

A group of children living in a rural area of the municipality of Campechuela, Granma, has to walk through completely flooded paths every day to reach their school.

"This is how the children of Altos de Jo go to school, and the government is not interested and does not answer the phone; respond to this situation," demanded Adriela Aldana Fonseca, a member of the Facebook group "Somos de CAMPECHUELA."

The photos and video shared show a terrible scene: elementary school children, accompanied by their mothers, walking barefoot along a path filled with muddy water, with their feet submerged in that filth up to above their ankles - the smallest almost up to their knees.

The little ones are accompanied by their mothers, who, wearing boots, carry their children's backpacks and shoes.

The images provoke outrage, seeing the government's neglect towards the population in that area, and at the same time, it is moving to witness the interest of those children and their parents in studying, despite so many difficulties.

"Sadly, that’s how I used to go to school, and that was years ago, and now and for centuries it will be the same repeated story," said a resident in Miami.

"Without words. Only God knows what we parents go through day by day with our children. Things like these are what give credence to a system that has never worked and never will," a mother stated.

"What a horror and sadness to see those children struggling to go to school," lamented a woman from Pinar del Río.

At the beginning of the month, a father residing in Alquízar, Artemisa, shared a video that shows the ordeal faced every day by the children of the Ramón Emeterio Betances school due to the poor condition of the road, which is more like a pasture.

The recording shows the road full of mud and water, to the point that some mothers carry their children on their backs to prevent them from falling and getting muddy.

A photo showed several children standing by the side of the road, waiting for an approaching truck to pass, because a few meters ahead there was so much stagnant water that it could soak them.

In May, the case of the primary school "Amistad con los pueblos" in Santiago de Cuba came to light, where the entrance and the area for morning assemblies were completely flooded with sewage water.

The parents of the children studying there are tired of reporting the situation, which has been like this for several years.

"The entrance is flooded with sewage, making it difficult for children to enter their classrooms. The director has already stated that she has exhausted all resources by visiting all the institutions and they do nothing," a mother reported.

"Some of the parents agree that they should close the school, but some workers report that it is the Hygiene department that has to do it," the complainant specified on Facebook.
