Omara Durand and Mijaín López, two of the prominent athletes who shone at the Paris 2024 Games, both in the Paralympics and the Olympics, were awarded a replica of the "Machete de Maceo," a recognition given by the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR).

Dressed in the typical Cuban guayaberas, which only a select group of the Cuban population can afford due to high prices, the two athletes attended a formal event at the Universal Hall of the FAR, where Minister Álvaro López Miera and other high-ranking officials from that ministry were present, reported the official site Cubadebate.

Yuniol Kindelán, Omara's guide, received the Combative Brotherhood Medal, completing the trio of awardees from the FAR.

Omara, Mijaín, and Yuniol apparently had better luck than other medalist teammates at the Paris Olympic Games, both in the Olympics and the Paralympics.

With limited resources, the neighbors of Cuban Olympic medalist Yusneilys Guzmán, the first Cuban wrestler to win a silver medal in the 50 kilograms freestyle category, welcomed her upon her return from Paris to the Diez de Octubre municipality in Havana.

Another controversy was generated by the alleged sale, by the Cuban triple jumper Andy Hechavarría, of the cellphone that was given to all the athletes at the Olympic event.

Hechavarría was promoting the sale of the exclusive Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 limited edition for 900 dollars.

The announcement did not go unnoticed, quickly generating multiple reactions among users, some of whom questioned his decision, while others understood his need to obtain additional income due to the critical situation in Cuba, which even high-performance athletes do not escape.

The creditors of the replica of the machete of the known as El Titán de Bronce, and considered "the most valiant of the Cuban generals in the struggles for our independence," had outstanding performances in their respective disciplines. Both announced their retirement after their competitions in Paris.
