The American singer and songwriter Barbra Streisand strongly criticized Donald Trump's recent comments about Taylor Swift, stating that they reflect "immature and vindictive" behavior from someone who should never aspire to the presidency of the United States.
"When Trump posts something as silly as 'I hate Taylor Swift', it sounds like a young person who couldn't get tickets to her show. But he is an immature and vindictive 78-year-old man who should never become president of the United States," concluded Streisand on her X profile.
The observation of the also American actress comes amid the growing controversy between Trump and the pop star, after she endorsed the Democratic candidate for the elections, Kamala Harris.
The Democratic campaign is using Swift's endorsement as a mechanism to mobilize young voters, a key group in the electoral contest.
After the endorsement from Swift, more than 400,000 people visited the voter registration website, vote.gov, in the following 24 hours. However, the data on the actual impact of this action is mixed.
A recent ABC News/Ipsos poll shows that only 6% of voters believe that Swift's endorsement increases the likelihood of them supporting Harris, while 13% say it decreases that likelihood. The remaining 81%, for their part, indicate that Swift's stance does not affect their decision.
Trump, with his reference to Swift's comment, has kept the topic in the headlines, although a second apparent assassination attempt has diverted attention from the dispute in the news.
So far, the young singer has not responded to Trump's attacks on social media.
