This Wednesday, South Florida is under a tropical storm warning due to the rains and winds generated by tropical storm Helene, which formed on Tuesday in the northwestern Caribbean.
The counties of Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, and Monroe are under a warning, with the forecast of tropical storm conditions in the next 36 hours.
The National Hurricane Center has also issued hurricane watches and warnings for parts of Cuba and Florida, as Helene is expected to strengthen to a Category 3 hurricane before making landfall on the Gulf Coast of Florida on Thursday night.
In the southeastern United States, Helene is expected to produce between 5 and 10 inches of rain, with isolated areas reaching up to 15 inches, which could lead to flash flooding.
Sustained winds will range from 25 to 30 mph, with gusts that could exceed 50 mph. Additionally, there is a possibility of tornadoes within the spiral bands associated with the system.
Wednesday and Thursday are expected to see storms with wind gusts exceeding 35 mph and heavy rainfall at intervals in South Florida. Authorities have advised South Florida residents to be prepared for deteriorating weather conditions, with a gradual increase in rain and winds.
