Cuban "pays" with a Metropolitano Bank card in Brazil: "A magic trick"

This Cuban is well known for being the stylist barber of some celebrities in Havana, such as actors Luis Silva and Alejandro Cuervo.

The Cuban barber and stylist Dorian Carbonell was visiting Brazil and starred in a scene that has sparked laughter on social media.

After enjoying a meal with friends at a restaurant, it was time to pay the bill and, with complete confidence, he took out his card from the Banco Metropolitano de La Habana to cover the expenses.

This type of card does not work outside the island, as they are limited to use in the Cuban financial system. However, in a gesture that no one expected, the waiter, far from pointing out the impossibility of the transaction, went along with the customer's game.

He took the card, swiped it through the card reader, and with impeccable performance processed the supposed payment. He even handed over a final receipt, as if everything had gone smoothly.

The video was shared on Dorian's social media and quickly sparked an avalanche of comments filled with humor and sarcasm, many of which reflected the frustration that Cubans feel when they see that the money they earn on the island has no value outside its borders.

The episode, which could very well have ended up as a simple joke among friends, has turned into a reflection on the economic difficulties faced by the average Cuban.

The responses on social media came quickly, and the reactions were as creative as they were varied. One comment highlighted that they had managed to "unblock the block," clearly alluding to the mockery made by some sectors regarding the economic reality on the island.

Another one pointed out ironically: "They don't work here, they will work in Brazil." More comments agreed on the absurdity of the situation, mentioning that the Banco Metropolitano must be enjoying the video, while Transfermóvil, the platform that allows payments on the island, would be upset about the publication.

Cuban humor also emerged in other comments, highlighting the waiter’s skill as "the best magic trick that human eyes have ever seen."

Among the cleverest responses, a user claimed that they were already being asked to send their old Metropolitano card to the United States as a souvenir, because it clearly wasn't useful for anything else.

Many Cubans watch with sadness as their currency holds no value, so the video was more than just a joke for some people.

Dorian represented, in key of humor, the harsh reality of Cuba's economic disconnection from the rest of the world. One of the comments concluded on a positive note: "You played with the hopes of millions of Cubans."
