In the midst of the severe crisis in Cuba, the regime announced the sale of a food module for nearly 1,000 Cuban pesos in Guantánamo for the preparation of the traditional caldosa from the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR) on September 28.
According to a note in the local official newspaper Venceremos, the supplies will be sold to the CDRs that will prepare the caldosa on Friday, September 27, as part of the celebrations.
The module, which has an approximate price of 953 pesos, includes a variety of products such as 50 sachets of soft drink, two liters of syrup, two bottles of refined rum, and one bottle of liquor or wine.
In addition, a pound of noodles, beef bones, and a kilogram of dough for croquettes are included. According to information provided by the Provincial Coordination of the CDR, meat products will be distributed with priority in the municipality of Guantánamo due to limited availability.
Agricultural products, such as cassava, pumpkin, and burro banana, will be supplied by the agricultural sector in most municipalities, while in Guantánamo and Caimanera, the Acopio company will be responsible for their distribution, the information emphasizes.
The products can be purchased at the commercial complexes of the corresponding People's Councils, where specific points for the purchase of root vegetables have also been established.
According to an additional note circulated by the president of the Popular Council Center of the city of Guantánamo, some of these points include CDR 263 in El Cebollín (San Justo), 147 in La Acelga (Reparto Obrero), and 337 in El Progreso (Sur Isleta), among others.
The traditional caldosa from the CDR has become a difficult task to fulfill for most Cubans in the current context of scarcity and inflation on the island.
This Wednesday, the recent tribute from INDER to the CDRs with a symbolic caldo was revealed.
JIT, the news portal specialized in sports, shared images on the social network X of a "morning gathering" in tribute to the CDR for their 64th anniversary, where "the symbolic stew" was prepared as part of the event.
In addition to the fake broth in an empty pot, coffee was also poured, and even clothes were hung up in a "symbolic" manner during the tribute of INDER to the CDR.
The caldosa, once a symbol of celebration in the neighborhoods of Cuba, has transformed into a bitter representation of the misery and scarcity that characterizes daily life on the island.
What was once a plentiful and varied dish, made with fresh ingredients, is now unattainable for most Cubans, as preparing a caldosa with quality products requires spending amounts that exceed their means.
And in that context, the regime continues to bet on and pretend that the CDR remains the organization of the people.
This week, the secretary of the organization, Gerardo Hernández Nordelo, urged Cubans not to overlook the day of the CDR.
