Cuban authorities reported this Thursday about the discovery of a Dinghy-type vessel on March 20, 2024, in the area of Cayo Levisa, in the municipality of La Palma, Pinar del Río.
According to an official report from the Port Captaincy of Pinar del Río cited by the state newspaper Granma, the vessel has a gray rubber hull, with the name "WEFT MARINE" visible on the port side.
It also has a base for the motor, grip fairleads, and a towing ring at the bow with a piece of secured chain.
The authorities state that individuals or entities that may have rights to the vessel must go to the Port Captaincy of Pinar del Río, located at Politécnico 1ro de Mayo Final, within a period of 30 calendar days from the publication of this notice.
To claim the property, interested parties must present the legal documentation that certifies their possession or ownership of the found item.
This finding adds to other recent discoveries of abandoned vessels on the Cuban coasts.
In June 2024, the Captaincy of the Port of Nueva Gerona reported a motorless vessel found on the beach of the Villa Linda Mar Hotel, in Cayo Largo del Sur. The boat, colored white and blue, had a length of 4.80 meters and the identification number TFT 2099.
In May 2024, another Zodiac-type vessel was located in the Juan Claro Canal, in the municipality of Martí, province of Matanzas. In this case, the vessel had a length of 2.50 meters and the name "Golden Ship" on the port side.
Cuban authorities regularly encounter findings of this type, especially along the country's shores, where it is suspected that some of these vessels have been used by migrants in their attempt to reach South Florida, or even by human or drug traffickers who abandon the boats after being detected by the authorities.
In all these cases, the Cuban regime issues a 30-day period for the legal owners of the vessels to claim them by submitting the corresponding documentation.
