Social media users are sharing shocking images of the severe flooding caused in Florida by Hurricane Helene.

The phenomenon made landfall in the northwest of the state on Thursday night as a category 4 hurricane, with sustained winds of up to 220 km/h and even higher gusts.

It is one of the most devastating weather events in the region in recent years.

Tampa General Hospital is protected from floods using an AquaFence, a waterproof barrier designed to withstand storm surges of up to 15 feet. It has worked in other rain events to prevent rainwater from impacting the operations of the center.

The most affected area was the northwest coast, especially the region known as Big Bend, which suffered the brunt of the hurricane.

According to reports, the storm surge reached 6.3 meters in some areas and caused catastrophic flooding in homes and businesses, as shown in the videos released.

Helene caused one fatality in Florida (in Tampa), after which it continued toward Georgia, now as a category 1 hurricane. Despite this, it caused widespread damage and resulted in two deaths in Wheeler County.
