Repressive Sunday in Cuba: The Lady in White Berta Soler is detained in Havana.

The leader of the Ladies in White was arbitrarily detained by State Security.

This Sunday, September 29, 2024, State Security detained Berta Soler, leader of the Ladies in White, as she was trying to leave her house in the Lawton neighborhood of Havana to attend mass.

Her husband, Ángel Moya Acosta, former political prisoner and activist, shared images of the arrest on social media and denounced that this case is part of the systematic repression against the Ladies in White.

According to Moya, the repressive forces of the Cuban regime have intensified arrests to prevent the Damas de Blanco from attending Mass, not only at the Santa Rita church but also at parishes in Havana, Matanzas, Santa Clara, and other provinces of the country.

The arrest of Berta Soler occurred around 1:00 p.m. when she was intercepted by regime forces, who prevented her from peacefully demonstrating in the streets, as is usual in her struggle for human rights in Cuba.

Last week, Berta was detained and missing for several days, in the custody of the Cuban authorities. She was released on September 25, and four days later, she was arbitrarily detained again.

The organization Damas de Blanco, winners of the Sájarov Prize, continue to face repression aimed at silencing their peaceful protests against the Cuban government.
