Two Cubans were arrested this Saturday, accused of stabbing a young man to death during an alleged fight in a mobile home community in western Miami-Dade County, authorities reported.

The Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) announced on Monday the arrest of Heriberto Germán Toledo Pérez, 57, and Eduan Salmón, 36, at 14601 NW 185 St. Both are of Cuban nationality, according to the police records shown by Telemundo51.

The two men were identified as the alleged killers of Richie Chavarrías, 30 years old, on the early morning of last Saturday, in a mobile home community east of Krome Avenue and the Everglades Wildlife Conservation Area, reported Local10 News.

Chavarrías suffered three large puncture wounds in the upper body. Miami-Dade Fire Department personnel transported him by helicopter to HCA Florida Aventura Hospital, where he later died due to his severe injuries.

A witness told the MDPD Homicide Office that the stabbing occurred when he and two other people passed by Toledo's property. According to his statement, recorded in the arrest report, Salmón came out of the closed residence and shouted at the group, threatening to "fuck them up," while wielding a kitchen knife.

Shortly after, Toledo left the property and stabbed Chavarrías in the back. The young man fell to the ground, and both suspects entered the residence.

Another witness assured the officers that they saw Salmón and Toledo washing a blood-stained knife in a sink after the attack.

After being arrested and questioned separately, the detainees gave different accounts of the events.

Toledo told the authorities that he had been drinking beer with Salmón since 1 p.m. on Friday and, at one point, he saw him lying outside the residence and helped him inside; but he denied having participated in a physical altercation.

However, Salmón assured that he started drinking with Toledo around 5 p.m. and that he was in the patio, with his eyes closed, when a group of unknown people, including Chavarrías, attacked him.

According to the Cuban, he took a kitchen knife out of his pocket to defend himself, but the individuals escaped before he could hurt any of them. According to his official statement, he later entered the house and informed Toledo of the incident.

When the suspects were arrested at the residence, a witness approached both of them and, pointing at Toledo, said, “He is the one who stabbed my friend,” according to the police report cited by Local10 News.

The two men were formally charged with second-degree murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and they appeared in court this Sunday, where a judge kept them in custody without the right to bail.

According to police records from Miami-Dade County, Salmón has an extensive criminal history, which includes arrests in recent years for multiple offenses such as assault, resisting arrest, reckless boating, theft, and driving with a revoked license. CiberCuba was able to confirm that Salmón is originally from Santiago de Cuba.

The reason for the deadly attack on Chavarrías remains undetermined, according to the Police, which continues its investigations and has urged anyone with more information about the case to call Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
